In-service Day 17 Nov 2006

November 24th, 2006 by richardbiggart in Uncategorized · No Comments

On the in-service day I was given the afternoon to run some ICT in-service. It proved to be very popular and successful. I was able to offer, with the help of other members of staff 4 courses.

  • Powerpoint
  • E-mail & Eolas
  • Digital Video & Editing
  • Interactive Whiteboard

The abilities were wide ranging from reasonably competent to one member of staff who informed me he was still looking for “A-drive”

I was surprised however, to find that the 4 students we have in the school at the moment all attended the IWB session, I would have thought that the use of the IWB would have be an integral part of their training at college.

Primary Headteacher’s Meeting

November 10th, 2006 by richardbiggart in Uncategorized · No Comments

Yesterday I attended the above meeting accompanied by Malcolm Knox of Prodigy Scotland.

Firstly, I gave a short presentation offering the Primary Teachers the oppertunity to discuss with their staff and  identify their ICT in-service requirements with the intention of offering courses locally.

This was very well received and I was informed that I would be inundated with requests.

Malcolm the gave a presentaion on what the IC3 is all about and explaind how this could be offered to both staff and P6/7 pupils.

Again, this was well received and the Head Teachers were keen that this should go ahead. They also felt that not only should Cowal be offering it but we should be offering it as a region.

I will discuss this with John McPhee, also the possibility of funding.

I will keep you informed with how it all progresses.

Primary Headteacher’s Meeting

October 4th, 2006 by richardbiggart in Uncategorized · 8 Comments

Hi Ewan

Thanks for asking.

The IC3 is an internationaly recognised qualification made up with 3 modules.

  • Living on-line.
  • Computer Fundimentals.
  • Key Applications.

It is hoped that most if not all P7 pupils will have completed part of the work prior to coming to the Grammar and as a result will have reached a common standard.

This will hopefully smooth out any overlaps in the teaching of Computing, since both primary and secondary schools will be working together using the same coursework.

I will be attending our “Primary Head Teacher’s Meeting” on 9th November 2006. The main puprpose of the meeting is to give a presentation on the introduction of IC3 to the primary schools. The presentation will be carried out by Malcolm Knox of Prodigy Scotland.

While attending SETT I had a meeting with Malcolm who told me of a new qualification being offered, the ICT http://www.prodigyscotland.co.uk/News.cfm

I intend to offer the opportunity to take part in the qualification to a couple of 3rd year pupils and see how they get on.

Has any one any comments or advice they can give me regarding the above.

Hello there!

August 16th, 2006 by richardbiggart in Uncategorized · 4 Comments

Welcome to my weblog. I am a Teacher of Technical Subjects in Dunoon Grammar School. My main areas of interest are golf, football, reading and walking. During the coming months I will be adding to this section, keeping you informed of current initiatives in ICT taking place within the school.

My first venture will be attendance at the forthcoming SETT Conference. I am curently setting up a “focus group” with the local primaries, I will be attending the Primary Head Teachers Meeting in November to discuss my thought and proposals for the way ahead with ICT in the Cowal area.

At present Dunoon Grammar is proving to be an interesting place to teach since we are having a new school built. As a result I will be doing my utmost to try and ensure we are at the forefront of the latest developments in ICT. The progress of the new school can be viewed at http://www.dunoongrammar.argyll-bute.sch.uk/

Over the next few weeks and months I will keep you posted on developments.

See you later
